JOB DESCRIPTION

The role:
We are seeking suitably experienced Emergency Medicine Registrars who will be responsible for the day-to-day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the allocated site/facility. Provide after-hours emergency as determined by the relevant work unit.

The Emergency Department has an annual attendance rate of 28000 patients per year with 28% admission rate. The Department treats a broad range of patients including major trauma cases. It is the referral centre for several district hospitals including King Island.

There are currently 9 Fellows of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM's) working alongside other senior clinical staff. There are 8 Registrar positions available for training in Emergency Medicine. The level of FACEM direct supervision and teaching is excellent.

The Region is an Emergency Medicine education and training hub and there is opportunity to complete the emergency medicine certificate and diploma at this hospital.

There is an opportunity for trainees that have completed their fellowship exams but require further ED time, to be rostered on the consultant roster with supervision, to ease their way into consultant practice and in addition be provided with clinical support time. This has proven to be a successful term.

The Emergency Department is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine for twelve months advanced training in Emergency Medicine with paediatric logbook. The ED is proud of its success in guiding candidates through the primary and fellowship examination. Other accredited training positions for registrars are available in medicine, surgery, anaesthetics, paediatrics, obstetrics and palliative care

The Service:
The health service has the main acute 160 bed teaching Hospital (with a rural clinical school attached) and a 70 bed Private Hospital, the other acute Hospital is located a short distance away and has 130 beds.

Located in a beautiful seaport city with a population of 20,000 people, this region is un-spoilt and within easy drive of rugged mountains, spectacular wilderness and sparkling highland lakes. Skills & Qualifications required:
Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty.
