Australia’s southernmost municipal area, the Huon Valley Council, is looking for a highly organised and customer oriented Administration Officer to join their Community Services Department. This role will provide professional and high-level administrative support to the Director Community Services and other staff within the department.

In this position you will provide office administration support including, but not limited to; diary management, word processing and data entry, agenda and minute preparation and the generation of reports and correspondence. This position will assist staff within the department in the coordination of community activities and events held throughout the Huon Valley and within the Huon Valley Hub. This position will also work closely with the Communications and Media team in assisting with the management of Council’s website content and Social Media accounts.

To be successful in this position, you will have completed a relevant certificate or diploma-level qualification and/or have extensive relevant practical experience. You will require demonstrated strong office administration skills with the ability to use your own initiative, plan and organise workloads to process high volumes of work. This position will require a strong customer service orientation as well as experience in the management of social media and/or website content management.

Mandatory Requirements

Essential:

  • Completion of relevant certificate or diploma level qualification and/or relevant extensive practical experience.
  • Demonstrated high level administrative skills with proficiency in the use of office management procedures and practices to provide accurate and timely support.
  • Demonstrated experience and high level ability in the use of information systems and Microsoft Office products, with the ability to adapt to a changing operational and technological environment.
  • Demonstrated ability using one’s own initiative, independent judgment, setting priorities, planning and organising workloads to process high volumes of work, in designated timeframes, with high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in social media and/or website content management

Desirable:

  • Previous Local Government experience
  • A broad understanding of the roles, functions and protocols associated with recreation, community development, medical services, and communications and media, experience in the management of social media and/or website content management.
