Period of Appointment

Fixed-term - up to a period of six years. A permanent appointment is offered to those who successfully complete the program.

Treasury’s Cadetship Program provides you with the opportunity to study part-time for your undergraduate degree while working for a central government agency and establishing your career. You will experience a number of rewarding work placements and gain exposure to a varied range of issues related to public policy, economic and financial management and regulatory processes.

You will be enrolled to commence an undergraduate degree course or be a short way through it. We are open to considering a wide range of disciplines not just public policy, economics, finance, accounting or law. What really matters to us is that you are an innovative and critical thinker, interested in working for government and can successfully manage work and study commitments at the same time. A permanent appointment is offered to those who successfully complete the program.

Your commencing salary is based on the amount of University study completed, usually within the range of $49 051 to $55 212 pro rata per annum, plus 9.5% superannuation.

We encourage applications from a diverse range of applicants and provide opportunities for flexible working arrangements. The order of merit resulting from this recruitment process may be re-used for up to 12 months to fill vacancies on this program.

Essential Requirements

Currently studying, or prior to starting the cadetship, be enrolled in a relevant degree course at a tertiary institution.
You must be eligible to work full-time and study part-time and you must at all times hold and comply with all visa requirements as determined by the Department of Home Affairs and the Migration Act 1958 if you are not an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

What do I submit with my application?

You will need to provide (please note that you can upload .doc, .docx, .pdf, .rtf, and .txt file types only):

  • a one to two page summary outlining why you are the best person for the job;
  • an up-to-date resume;
  • copies of your latest academic results (Academic Transcript) or University acceptance and ATAR/TCE results;
  • the contact details for two referees (if possible); and
  • a complete copy of your work and study visa, where applicable.
