JOB DESCRIPTION

The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for two Staff Specialist – Clinical Haematologist vacancies.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region and certain statewide services.

The inpatient oncology and haematology ward is a twenty bed oncology unit which specialises in the care of patients with a diagnosis of cancer or a haematological condition such as leukaemia, myeloma or lymphoma, and who may be receiving chemotherapy, radiotherapy or palliative care.

The Oncology/Haematology Day Unit also provides a clinical service to patients with a cancer or a haematological diagnosis.

Salary

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicants dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Classification

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 in accordance with the Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2017

  • Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1, 2 and 3 as described in the Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award.

Permanent part-time day work (with on-call), working 15.2 hours per fortnight.

Fixed-term part-time day work (with on-call), working 38 hours per fortnight commencing 17 May 2021 until 1 October 2021.

Duties

The Staff Specialist – Clinical Haematologist will:

  • Provide a consultant service in clinical and diagnostic haematology including inpatient and outpatient care in haematology to public and private patients of the Royal Hobart Hospital.
  • Be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
  • Participate in research and quality improvement activities.

in accordance with Hospital policy procedures and statutory regulations.

Essential Requirements

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check

Desirable Requirements

  • Master’s Degree/PhD in an appropriate field of medicine.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications to practice in clinical and diagnostic haematology
