Tasmanian Health Service is seeking experienced applicants for the role of Manager - Social Work Services to work in North West Tasmania at the North West Regional Hospital and the Mersey Community Hospital.

Social Work sits within a wider Allied Health Team within the North West and is supported by the Director of Allied Health role.

The Manager - Social Work Services is responsible for a small team of both inpatient, outpatient and Primary Health Social Workers and Social Work Assistants and also manages the Aboriginal Health Liaison and Multicultural Liaison service across 3 sites (NWRH, MCH and Devonport Community Health and Services Centre). Travel and work at all 3 sites would be required. The Social Work Service supports the inpatient discharge processes at both hospitals and the outpatient and community team provides hospital avoidance and wellness and reablement support to clients through both Primary Health funded services and Commonwealth Home Support Services. Social Work also offers support to the Integrated Maternity Service at the NWRH and offers Antenatal Social Work support at MCH. The Social Work Manager also supports (operationally and professionally) the Social Work Service at the North West Cancer Service.

The North West Regional Hospital, Burnie is a 160 bed facility and is the principal referral centre for the North West Tasmanian community and provides general medicine, surgical (including orthopaedic), intensive care, cancer services, paediatric services, outpatient clinics and specialist services. The hospital has close ties with the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School and with TAFE Tasmania thus providing opportunities for comprehensive clinical training programs.

The Mersey Community Hospital, Latrobe has 95 beds and offers general and specialist health services including rehabilitation and oncology services. The hospital has close ties with the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School and with TAFE Tasmania thus providing opportunities for comprehensive clinical training programs.

Details of Appointment

1 x Part Time Permanent Day Worker position working 60.8 hours per fortnight

Salary: $132,192 - $133,689 pro rata per annum + 9.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging

Please note: subsequent appointments may be made from this process and notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant.

The role reports to the Director - Allied Health Services and provides leadership and direction in the management of social work services across North West Tasmania.

Essential Requirements

  • A degree in Social Work giving eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

*as required by CHSP, occupants of this role are required to undertake a conviction check assessment every three years.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Current Driver’s Licence.
  • Post Graduate study relevant to the requirements of the role.
