The Opportunities

ASIO is seeking senior executive leaders for appointment as Assistant Director General (ADG) to fill several roles at the Senior Executive Service Band 1 level. As part of the Senior Leadership team, successful applicants will work closely with the Director-General, SES colleagues, external partners and stakeholders to lead and inspire teams to deliver outcomes and champion the Organisation's values. This includes providing timely and influential information to the Minister and ASIO's Executive.

ADG, Government Engagement and Oversight
This role is responsible for leading teams that work collaboratively across the organisation to:
  • deliver ASIO's International Engagement, Ministerial and Cabinet Liaison, Compliance and Internal Audit functions;
  • coordinate ASIO's liaison with the offices of the Minister for Home Affairs and the Attorney-General, and other parts of government as required; and
  • manage the briefing and preparation processes for various inter-agency, parliamentary and regulatory security forums.
ADG, Investment
This role is responsible for leading teams that work collaboratively across the organisation to:
  • coordinate the planning, prioritisation, monitoring, evaluation and governance of ASIO's capability investment;
  • provide advice and assessment of risks and opportunities to support the decision making of ASIO's Capability Investment Committee; and
  • manage and govern the application of ASIO's Project Program and Portfolio (P3M) framework across the Organisation.
ADG, Digital and Physical Access Capability
This role is responsible for leading teams that work collaboratively across the organisation to:
  • provide advice on maintaining and enhancing ASIO's technical capabilities in support of the security intelligence mission;
  • manage large multi-disciplined teams to innovate, develop and deploy technical intelligence solutions; and
  • manage a complex range of financial, technical and workforce resources.
For this role experience in one or more of the following fields is highly desirable: electrical engineering, computer science, software and/or hardware engineering.

ADG, Analysis Assessment and Advice Capability
This role is responsible for leading teams that work collaboratively across the organisation to:
  • advance the professionalisation and future proofing of ASIO's analytical workforce;
  • drive the uplift of ASIO's analytical tradecraft and advice capability;
  • enable enterprise-wide capability development for analysis assessment and advice; and
  • collaborate with domestic and international partners to enhance our analytic and assessment capabilities.

To be eligible for the role, you must:
  • Be an Australian citizen
  • Be assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a Positive Vetting security clearance.

Employment Conditions
Employment is under the ASIO Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
