JOB DESCRIPTION

Full Job Description
The program

Australian Red Cross has been working with recently arrived migrants for over 30 years, including people seeking asylum, refugees, people in detention or separated from family, people on temporary visas impacted by COVID, and people experiencing or at risk of modern-day slavery. We also help get people into work, into volunteering, and connected into their local communities, as well as running programs in schools, workplaces and communities to support greater understanding and inclusion. Recently we undertook a co-design process with community members and former clients to understand how we can improve our work and harness the strengths of migrant communities in Australia.

We are now expanding membership of our key nationwide advisory body, the Migration Programs Advisory Group (MPAG) to welcome three people as Community Advisors. Red Cross strongly encourages people with lived experience as a migrant, refugee or person seeking asylum to apply and consider sharing your expertise and/or sector experience with MPAG.

The opportunity

Red Cross is looking for representatives across all states and territories of Australia.

All new MPAG Community Advisors will be matched with a current member as a mentor to provide support the first few months. Further support and training from Red Cross will also be made available over the course of the appointment, based on the interests of the successful candidates.

The impact

In this voluntary role you will be able to have a real, direct influence on the work and direction of the Australian Red Cross migration programs, helping to ensure that the needs of migrants in transition have their humanitarian needs met and are participating and included in Australian society.

Red Cross wants to bring together and include a wide range of expertise and perspectives in order to inform and advise our program, service, research and advocacy strategies across Australia, in the region, and across the globe, on issues related to migration.
