About the role

Searson Buck are searching for an experienced Civil Engineer - Development to support our client with their current and upcoming capital projects around Hobart municipalities.

As the Civil Engineer - Development, you will be reporting to the Manager Development Appraisal while working closely with the planning and development team in delivering the day to day review and supervision of planning, construction applications and permits. Also, to ensure compliance with relevant legislations, Australian Standards and council's policies and regulations.

Key Responsibility

  • Verify and validate engineering requirements and conditions to be used in planning perm
  • Provide information and advice to the general public and developers in respect to engineering matters related to planning application
  • Provide consistent policy interpretation of Codes and Regulations and assume responsibility for the statutory requirements of the relevant Legislation and Regulation
  • Participate in the project assessment process and management of all major project applications and determine and procure
  • Interface with other internal stakeholders within the organisation to ensure there is consistent and effective delivery process
  • Investigate and identify the implications of proposals related to stormwater roads, traffic and surrounding properties.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement activities to improve the technical work of the division
  • Assisting planning and development team with the pre-assessment of applications and the equitable distribution of applications and associated

  • Planning and Development Team (planners, surveyor, environmental engineers)

External Relationships

  • Contractors, surveyor, landowners, architects, consulting engineers

Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or similar discipline
  • Good experience in stormwater, roads and traffic (i.e. concept, preliminary, detailed design)
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply relevant Regulations/Standards/Codes and provide technical input into the development of regulations and policies
  • Experience with QA management systems and procedures
  • Experience in managing and leading a small team
  • Good organisational skills, time management skills, and ability to work to project timeframes
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Valid working visa if you do not hold a Permanent Residency or Citizenship
  • Valid driver's licence
