Job title: Japanese Cuisine Chef

Work type: Permanent Full-Time

Salary package: $70K to $84K (depending on your skills and experience)

Location: Sandy Bay, TAS

SUMINATO Japanese Restaurant is located in one of Hobart’s busiest suburbs, and opens for lunch and dinner, six days a week. The restaurant is focused on continually enhancing the customer experience through the prompt delivery of high quality, and yet contemporary Japanese food.

Currently, SUMINATO has an exciting opportunity for a suitable chef who is passionate for modern Japanese cuisine to join our team. The ideal candidate must have experience with Japanese cuisine, be able to work effectively within a team, as well as the ability to assume responsibility and work autonomously.

Duties:

  • Take overall responsibility for the kitchen’s daily operations
  • Approving and “polishing” dishes before they reach the customer
  • Design menus with new or existing dishes (including provision of detailed recipes) to ensure the variety and quality of the servings
  • Display a confident and creative cooking style with a strong emphasis on consistency and presentation
  • Monitor and provide appropriate training to any relevant personnel (e.g., other chefs, kitchen hands and wait staff etc.) to ensure all items are prepared in line with the menu and delivered at high quality and in a timely manner
  • Work within a team and individually to meet customer demands
  • Ensure food quality, presentation and safety standards are maintained
  • Abide by health and hygiene standards in all food storage and preparation areas

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Prior work experience in a similar role (at least 3 years)
  • Strong knowledge of, and experience in modern Japanese cuisine
  • Demonstrated ability to perform relevant cooking techniques in Japanese cuisine including sushi, sashimi, tempura and hot pan.
