Manager, Tasmanian Cancer Registry

Fixed-term, part time (0.8) position until June 2024.
Based in Hobart.

The Opportunity

The Tasmanian Cancer Registry is responsible for collecting information on all malignant neoplasms in Tasmanian residents and producing annual cancer statistics reports. The Tasmanian Cancer Registry is located at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research (Menzies) and funded by the State Department of Health.

The Tasmanian Cancer Registry Manager will be responsible for managing the administrative, information systems and reporting functions of the Tasmanian Cancer Registry and its stakeholder relationships.

Key Accountabilities:
Manage the functions of the Tasmanian Cancer Registry including receipt and coding of cancer notifications, administrative processes, information systems and databases.
Extract data from Tasmanian Cancer Registry databases, prepare annual statistical and other reports, respond to requests for cancer data and work with biostatisticians and researchers using Tasmanian Cancer Registry data.
Ensure effective management of the Tasmanian Cancer Registry budget and human resources.
Review, redevelop and implement Registry policies and procedures as required.
Manage the ongoing development and improvements to the Registry’s information systems and databases and ensure data security is maintained at all times.
Assist with the Tasmanian Cancer Registry’s strategic planning and facilitate the implementation and review of its objectives.

Your Application

To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate;

Completion of a degree in health information management, or a related field and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Familiarity with the principles of disease coding, classification, and registration.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a range of people and organisations.
Excellent leadership, management and supervisory skills and experience, with the ability to use a high level of initiative.
Demonstrated expertise in project management including management of human resources and project budgets.


Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $112,425 comprising base salary within the range of $87,423 to $96,090 plus 17% superannuation.
