The Tasmanian Oyster Company are renowned for their certified Organic and Sustainable premium oysters that are grown locally in our pristine waters and are arguably some of the best in the world. Their hatchery methods and genetic breeding program produce consistently high results supporting the high demand of their products from both local and overseas markets.

Continued growth and a thriving market have created the need for a new Hatchery Manager (HM) who will report directly to the Hatchery Operations Manager. Based 30 minutes from Hobart, the Hatchery Manager is responsible for the production and husbandry of shellfish brood stock, larvae and spat at the Pipeclay Lagoon (PCL) Hatchery facility with a key focus on timeliness, maximizing product quality and ensuring the operation runs cost-effectively.

The PCL Hatchery Manager will play a key role in coordinating and planning for production and sales requirements in collaboration with other management staff. This is a true hands-on technical and management role so the successful candidate must exhibit the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Aquaculture or Marine Sciences
  • Extensive experience in commercial hatchery production, aquaculture, terrestrial based or similar role with biological interpretation expertise
  • Senior management experience, particularly optimising budgetary resources and the operational management of staff
  • Knowledge of WH&S legislation and obligations
