JOB DESCRIPTION

Hours/Period of Appointment

Permanent, full time, shift work working 76 hours per fortnight to commence 3 May 2021. 
Notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant. 

Note: This selection process may be used to fill casual roles if applicable. 

Duties

In accordance with conventional practices, methods and standards, the Technical Officer provides support to pathologists and scientists for the efficient operation of the Pathology Department.
The Technical Officer ensures prescribed procedures and techniques are applied when performing routine and specialised tests.
Under general guidance from laboratory supervisors, Technical Officers perform technical work in one or more sections of the Pathology Department. Duties will vary depending on location.

Location: Microbiology, Pathology Department, Launceston General Hospital

Essential Requirements

  • An Associate Diploma from a recognised tertiary institution, or an equivalent qualification, appropriate to the nature of the work.
  • Current Driver's Licence.
  • Refer to SoD for further essential requirements
  • The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
e) Serious traffic offences

2. Identification check

3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.

Desirable Requirements

  • International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Good Shipping Certification, or the ability to gain certification.
