About the Client
Norfolk Island Central School has 295 students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

About the Role
School Learning Support Officers, under the supervision and direction of a teacher, assist in classroom activities, school routines, supervision of students and the care and management of identified students with special needs. They assist with the implementation of individual education programs, provide opportunities for students to develop personal, social, independent and living skills, attend to the personal care needs of students, and operate audio-visual aids, duplicating, issuing learning materials and clerical duties. SLSOs may work across both Banyan Park Early Learning Centre and Norfolk Island Central School, providing early intervention support for children aged birth to 8.

This position requires an enthusiastic and proactive team player who is committed to enabling students to reach their potential through a supportive environment of high expectations.

About You
Selection Criteria:

  • Appropriate qualifications in education support, experience in an SLSO role or experience working with children from Birth to Year 12.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and empathetic approach and ability to work with students and their teachers in a calm and non-confrontational manner whilst exercising initiative and discretion.
  • Qualifications and experience with or a willingness to learn to work with students with developmental concerns, or diagnosed emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
  • Awareness of the need of students with disabilities, in particular Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Demonstrated capacity to work as an effective member of a team providing excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and contribute to whole school programs and practices.
