    About the Role ...

    An exciting opportunity now exists for a talented Café Team Leader to join our Devonport store on a full-time basis.

    As Café Team Leader you will report to the Store Manager and work within the Café Team in a fast-paced role focusing on providing the customer service Hill Street is famous for.

    Your day will involve:

    • Leading your shift by example, overseeing and working alongside your Team Members and supporting them to increase productivity, efficiency and effectiveness, find solutions to problems and reduce wastage
    • Respond to customer needs with a smile and exceptional service so that their experience within the café is positive, welcoming and friendly
    • Maintaining a high level of professionalism at all times and ensuring that customers are served in a timely, friendly and courteous manner
    • Operating, and supervising your team, in the operation of Point of Sale (POS) registers, a commercial coffee machine and other equipment
    • Training and developing your Team Members so that their professional goals can be achieved and performance can be continuously improved
    • Accepting payments, ensuring all prices and quantities are accurate and providing a receipt to every customer, and supervising your team to do so
    • Processing refunds and exchanges, and resolving complaints
    • Following and upholding all Workplace Health and Safety and Food Safety policies and procedures
    • Ensuring your department is always presented at the highest standards of cleanliness and tidiness
    • Leading and contributing to continuous development of your department’s efficiency to improve safety, quality and productivity

    About You ...

    You will have a friendly and open attitude, with outstanding communication, leadership and interpersonal skills. You will have extremely good attention to detail and be able to focus on the finer details, such as quality control and presentation of all dishes and drinks being served to customers, while ensuring that you and your team are providing our customers with the best possible café experience. 

    You must also have a passion for customer service, love working with food and enjoy working in a busy store where you will be part of a multidisciplinary leadership team of retail professionals.

    Flexibility to work across our span of hours, over all seven days of the week, some public holidays, and alternate weekends, is also required.

    To succeed in this role you will need the following skills and experience:

    • At least 2 years’ experience working in Customer Service at Team Leader level with another food retailer, café or within the hospitality industry. Additionally, highly developed barista skills are desirable.
    • Alternatively, you will be an aspiring leader with at least 2 years’ relevant experience and wishing to apply your developing leadership skills in a Team Leader role.
    • Excellent communication skills and a high level of competence in written and spoken English.
    • Significant fresh food retail knowledge and a love of food, cooking, nutrition and different cuisines, which you will share with your team and your customers
    • Strong judgement and problem solving skills to resolve and escalate issues and concerns with your Store Manager in a timely manner
    • Ability to work and lead within a team environment
    • Strong customer service skills including resolving customer complaints
    • Acute attention to detail and time management skills
    • Ability to inspire, develop and drive team performance through mentoring and coaching during each shift
    • High level of energy and ability to take direction and initiative
    • Demonstrate self-motivation, adaptability, drive, and efficiency
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
    • Possess a growth mindset with the ability to learn from mistakes and continue learning
    • Ability to comprehend and follow company procedures and regulations regarding food handling and Workplace Health and Safety.
