About MAIB

The Motor Accidents Insurance Board (MAIB), is a Tasmanian Government Business Enterprise which operates Tasmania's personal injury motor accident insurance scheme. The scheme provides benefits, rehabilitation and lifetime support, and manages the common law claims of people injured in motor vehicle accidents.

About the position

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of the MAIB Executive team along with the CEO and CFO. MAIB aim to provide excellent customer service making a real difference to the lives of their customers. The role will be integral in driving strategy within MAIB to ensure quality service delivery across the organisation, working closely with employees, the leadership team and external stakeholders to meet organisational goals and work towards continual improvement.

  • Oversee the management of the claims management and administration operations;
  • Guide and develop other leaders within MAIB;
  • Manage corporate governance and risk;
  • Provide executive and company secretary support to the Board;
  • Strategic thinker, contribute to the achievement of MAIB's strategic objectives;
  • Identify legislation and government instructions that impact MAIB; and
  • Drive and manage projects assigned by the CEO

About you

To be successful you will need a practical hands on approach with an ability to deliver outcomes without being a matter expert. You will need to be comfortable reporting and answering to a professional board, possess strong people management skills and be competent across all aspects of general business operations. The successful candidate will likely have:

  • High level communication and written abilities;
  • Being a role model to guide and develop staff in creating a positive workplace culture;
  • Demonstrated experience in both strategic and operational work;
  • Energy and drive to challenge the way we do things;
  • A genuine care for people;
  • Ability and capacity to quickly acquire knowledge; and
  • Comfortable to manage and drive outputs where not the matter expert.
