The National Indigenous Training Academy (NITA) commenced in 2011 and aims to provide Indigenous people from across Australia the opportunity to complete a nationally accredited workplace-based traineeship in hospitality, tourism, retail or horticulture, as applicable to the locality.
We are currently seeking a NITA Youth Worker to support young Indigenous Australians with their socio-emotional and health needs with a focus on physical and emotional health, hygiene and wellbeing, with the goal of maintaining employment, learning life skills and completing their traineeship.

Essential duties will include:
Working collaboratively and supporting Residential Supervisors to ensure the trainees socio-emotional and health needs are attended - focusing on physical and emotional health, hygiene, wellbeing, motivation and perseverance.
Engage with trainees through group work and culturally appropriate recreational activities.
Supporting Residential Supervisors with managing incidents whilst on shift, and as required.
Effective and efficient management of a trainee’s needs as it relates to the individual, their needs and wellbeing plans including resolving complex issues.
Assist with designing, planning and managing innovative programs that support the trainee’s socio-emotional needs, and contribute to their personal and professional development.
Coordinating support services with internal and external providers and stakeholders as it relates to the individual trainee and their wellbeing plan, including transporting trainees to appointments.
Supporting the Voyages Wellbeing team with trainee case management as it relates to the trainee’s needs, wellbeing plan and the role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:
Experience working in a boarding/dormitory/residential facility.
Certificate IV in Community Services, Certificate IV in Youth Work (or similar experience demonstrating ability to uphold youth work practices and principles)
Current First Aid Certificate
Demonstrated ability to build and participate in youth activities supporting socio-emotional and professional development.
Appropriate level of understanding of the issues facing young Indigenous Australians, especially in a boarding environment, including demonstrated skill and commitment to working with young Indigenous Australians.
Ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous Australians and a knowledge and understanding of their culture, barriers, needs and aspirations.
Ability to motivate and encourage Indigenous Australians to take up and remain in employment, and to address issues that threaten employment placements.
A National Police Check is a mandatory step of the recruitment process.
