The Opportunity

i) field inventory/sampling of plant biomass, woody debris and soil organic carbon,
ii) field data collection in forest and agricultural ecosystems to better understand carbon, water and biodiversity, including establishment, monitoring and management of new trials, and maintenance of equipment, and
iii) management of site facilities such as glasshouses, laboratory and storage areas.
Your duties will require you to:
- Participate in planning projects and take responsibility for the scheduling, implementation and completion of major field, glasshouse and office-based parts of projects, including allocating and directing tasks where appropriate.
- Working closely with other CSIRO staff and our partners to identify suitable field study locations, including the coordination of landholder communications and logistics associated with gaining access to sites and data collection.
- Undertake travel including driving to field sites both locally and interstate, at times requiring overnight stays.
- Take responsibility for ensuring all fieldwork related health and safety requirements are met and that all work is completed in full accord with CSIRO HSE policies.
- Coordinate and plan the human resource and equipment requirements for undertaking the required field activities including the maintenance of in situ field monitoring equipment, management of trials to maintain high standards of maintenance and hygiene particularly with regards to pests and diseases.
- Oversee the collation and custodianship of resulting data, with guidance for project leads and may assist in data exploration, interpretation and analysis.
Salary: AU$83k - AU$94k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
- A current drivers license
- Willingness and ability to travel both locally and interstate including overnight stays.
- A relevant bachelor or higher degree or equivalent relevant work experience in environmental or agricultural sciences.
- A strong background and experience in the establishment and maintenance of field trials.
- Experience in the use and maintenance of field-based instrumentation such as data-loggers, weather stations etc.
- High-level coordination, communication and time-management skills, including a high degree of initiative, self-motivation and team work.
- Demonstrated experience in data management and curation, with capacity to manage and maintain data in online team environments, data cleaning and quality control.
- Data analytical skills in environments such as Microsoft Excel, Access, etc.
Eligibility
The successful applicant will be required to obtain and provide a National Police Check or equivalent and undergo a pre-employment medical examination.
