UExcel Medical are recruiting for several accredited General Medicine vacancies for the 2021 clinical year:

MAJOR Level 3 tertiary hospital
The major Hospital is a tertiary centre, Level 3 teaching hospital, with a strong physician training program. The medical registrar positions are accredited Basic Physician terms.

The Department of General Medicine is the main inpatient medical unit. On average, we admit 15-20 patients over a 24-hour cycle. As well as those admissions, there are admissions to subspecialty medicine teams, averaging a total of 20-25 admissions of Medical patients per day. The General Medicine Units are planned to be based on one ward in the new K-block in 2020, which is currently under development. Each team is supported by Allied Health specialists.

Presently the Department of General Medicine has 13 Staff Specialists, mostly in part-time roles. The teams are organized into 4 Medical Units; each unit has its own Basic Training Registrar and Intern, and 2-3 consultants. There are now 8 Advanced Training positions in General Medicine, rotating through General Medicine and other sub-specialty positions such as stroke, respiratory medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology and nephrology.
The present model of care is one of admission by the on-call units (generally acutely unwell patients through the Emergency Department), and follow up of those patients during their stay within the hospital. We are developing models of care to ensure an even distribution of patients within the teams to share workload, facilitate patient flow out of the ED, and ensure excellence in patient-centered care.

The general medical registrars will rotate through the Medical Teams, evenings and weekends, nights, and some also will also have secondment terms (which helps meet BPT training requirements). We currently only offer some trainees a rotation into Cardiology (4 three-month rotations per year), although other subspecialties may become available in the future. The registrar role that this position offers is predominantly General Medicine.
After hours, the general medical registrar is the leader of the acute medicine after-hours team. There is strong support from the consultant staff across the hospital, both in General Medicine and in the other sub-specialties.
The hospital has full diagnostic services available. There is provision of sub-specialty advice and support, and ICU support, as one would expect from a tertiary teaching hospital.

The hospital has training positions in all the subspecialties (at RMO level and Advanced training level), including General Medicine, a number of which are linked to interstate training programs.
We invite applications from basic physician trainees programs or those who wish to have training in general medicine to supplement their training in another discipline E.G. Emergency medicine, General Practice, ICU, to meet their career goals.

There is an active teaching program for the Fellowship Examination with regular weekly tutorials, and also in preparation for the clinical examination. Registrars have 2 weeks of professional development/study leave allowance per year, and 5 weeks of annual leave per year.
